The Embassy of Libya Hosts an Education and Cultural Experience Event in Washington, D.C.
As the world celebrates International Day of Democracy on September 15th, 2020, the United Nations has urged governments to be “transparent, responsive, and accountable in the COVID-19 response and ensure that any emergency measures are legal, proportionate, necessary, and non-discriminatory. Democracy provides the natural environment for the protection and effective realization of human rights, with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights stating:
“The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote of by equivalent free voting procedures.”
We at the Embassy of the State of Libya wish Libyans, and others who enjoy the freedoms of democracy around the world, warm wishes on International Day of Democracy.
