On August 18th, 2020, Ambassador Bughaighis attended the National Democratic Institute's International Leaders Forum as part of the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) ongoing conference this week. The event, titled "U.S. Foreign and Security Policy: 2021 and Beyond," was panelled by Ambassador Johnnie Carson, Madeleine K. Albright, Michele Flournoy, and Senator Chris Coons (D-DE).
Panelists discussed potential policy changes a new U.S. president could enact, focusing on crucial alliances, partnerships, and multilateral agreements. All panelists agreed that the United States should enact a foreign policy that deals American values and interests, but also one that places importance on promoting democracy and human rights.
